Mauritania, a country located in North Africa, is divided into 15 regions, each of which has its own unique geography, culture, and history. These regions are Adrar, Assaba, Brakna, Dakhlet Nouadhibou, Gorgol, Guidimaka, Hodh Ech Chargui, Hodh El Gharbi, Inchiri, Nouakchott Nord, Nouakchott Ouest, Nouakchott Sud, Tagant, Tiris Zemmour, and Trarza.

  • Adrar: desert landscapes and historic cities, including Chinguetti (UNESCO World Heritage site)
  • Assaba: agricultural area with vast plantations and historic cities like Kiffa
  • Brakna: major rice and date producing region with a diverse ethnic population
